Guided by her new passion, she moved to the jungles of Belize to support the development of organic farms, and later as a volunteer on a biodynamic farm in New Zealand. No matter where she was in the world, it was the interconnection of people, the land, and food that gave meaning to each place.</p><p>As Global Head of Food, Health, and Local Economies at SecondMuse, an innovation company that works with visionary corporations, cities, governments, organizations and startups to create 21st century economies, Kristin uses experience design, systems thinking, and the power of connection to drive local, national, and global change. Within her portfolio is the recent completion of the Food System Vision Prize funded by The Rockefeller Foundation; the launch of a new regional food system initiative called Urban Food Hives in partnership with Oxfam; Headstream funded by Pivotal Ventures; Movember focused on black tech creatives, and building a Main Street entrepreneur ecosystem in Battle Creek, MI funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.</p><p>For over 15 years, Coates Consulting, designed and developed, dozens of award-winning sustainable tourism destinations across the globe. Each destination championed local economies, local conservation, and local culture through every touch point of the guest experience including Patagonia National Park, Post Ranch Inn, Jean Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort, and dozens more. From inception to launch, Kristin helped design the original vision, create a development and operations team, and raise over $65M to design and develop the award-winning Cavallo Point – The Lodge at Golden Gate, a public/private partnership with the Department of Interior.</p><p>Kristin received degrees in International Environmental Studies at the University of Vermont and Sustainable Tourism at George Washington University.
