Its creation story lies in the journey of two young Mexicans, Adrián López Arriaga López Velarde and Marte Arturo Cázarez Duarte, who grabbed the opportunities to pursue studies and work halfway around the world in Taiwan but returned home to apply what they had learned. Adrián developed an expertise in how sustainable materials could be used in the furniture and fashion industries, while Marte focused more on understanding the dynamics of business, working in the aloe vera industry before turning his interests to fashion. In 2019, these two creative and mission-driven individuals formed the company Adriano Di Martí, S.A. de C.V.</p><p>Realizing that the demand for leather was growing, their objective was to create a material with a much smaller ecological footprint than leather and current faux leathers. The ideal material needed to be abundant and was relatively easy to cultivate, requiring little water, no additional energy besides sunlight and free of pesticides/pesticides. In brainstorming the options, they realized that Nopal, a cactus abundant in Mexico, checked all the boxes.
